Internship

Where today’s students become tomorrow’s policy leaders.

Work alongside one of the nation’s longest-standing free-market public policy organizations, develop real-world experience, and contribute to ideas that can make a lasting difference.

An internship at Cascade Policy Institute is more than a summer program.

It is an opportunity to research important issues, publish original work, engage with policymakers, strengthen your professional skills, and learn from experienced leaders working at the intersection of public policy, communications, research, and nonprofit leadership.

For more than 35 years, Cascade has helped advance liberty and expand opportunity through practical policy solutions. As an intern, you’ll become part of that mission while gaining experiences that will continue to shape your education, career, and leadership long after your internship ends.

Why intern at Cascade?

The best learning happens by doing.

Cascade interns take on meaningful work from day one. They research real policy issues, contribute to published work, attend legislative hearings and policy events, collaborate with experienced mentors, and participate in conversations that shape public policy.

Whether your interests are economics, law, journalism, communications, business, public policy, education, or another discipline, you’ll leave with practical experience, stronger professional skills, and a deeper understanding of how ideas become action.

Just as importantly, you’ll build relationships with accomplished policy professionals, researchers, business leaders, elected officials, and other interns who share a passion for advancing liberty, opportunity, and responsible public policy.

What you’ll experience

  • Research and analyze important public policy issues.
  • Publish articles, policy analysis, and opinion pieces.
  • Assist with research that informs legislation and public debate.
  • Develop professional writing, research, and public speaking skills.
  • Attend legislative hearings, public meetings, educational forums, and policy events.
  • Learn how an independent public policy organization creates lasting impact.
  • Receive one-on-one mentoring from experienced policy professionals.
  • Build lasting professional relationships that continue well beyond the internship.

Who should apply?

Cascade welcomes applications from undergraduate and graduate students who are intellectually curious, motivated, and eager to grow.

Students from many academic disciplines have succeeded in the program, including economics, business, political science, communications, journalism, public policy, law, education, and related fields.

Above all, we’re looking for people who are committed to thoughtful ideas, meaningful work, and the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and economic opportunity.
